There are 31 public schools listed in El Monte:
-10 schools (33%) are scored below average by the state of California
-19 schools (61%) are scored average by the state of California
-2 schools (6%) are scored above average by the state of California
The public schools are funded by the state as well as national budgets. More money is put into public education than ever before. Class sizes have been reduced. Technology is beyond comprehension in school site facilities. This is alarming and frankly scary. Are schools on the eve of becoming obsolete? With more money, resources, and technology: common sense says the figures reported by the state of California should be the opposite.
One issue could be that analog systems are taught in digital worlds. Perhaps schools are to education what VCRs and DVDs are to television and film? What holds true is it is far too late for prevention. Intervention does not seem to indicate progress. Reformation has only confused students, staff, and stakeholders. This leaves revolution.
Public education should be completely revolutionized because reformation and adaptation have only made things worse. Currently confusing the stakeholders, students, and staff, our public education is in a state of regression. Progress is the goal and revolution could be the solution. With the current status quo, it certainly could not cause further damage.

The commons, including public education, has become a feeding trough for Machievellian opportunists from the business world. Public-private partnerships, outsourcing, lack of accountability, and lack of public scrutiny have created this situation. Sit in on any board meeting and look towards the back of the stapled stack of board items. Everybody wants a cut of the taxpayer-funded hog slop. These items are mostly all approved late into the night when all the folks (who arrived for the happy news and presentations) have left the board room to go home. Testing companies, consultants, construction grants, technology are taking the lifeblood out of public school budgets. I don’t know how it can be fixed because it’s institutionalized. Attrition removes the honest brokers and watchdogs over time. The new breed are enculturated through the corrupted in-groups and good ol’ boy networks. Board members run for their seat to advance their business ventures and investments. The students suffer. They always do. Their education is relevant only so long as they plug in and stay obedient. I agree about the need to revolutionize education. Consultants paid for by the Dept. of Education will introduce more technology and additional tests to save the day (snark).
